Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)

Guess who had her LASIK done!
Never thought I'd be getting my eyesight corrected so soon! But yay, all thanks to Mummy and my Aunt, I got it done just in time for Buffalo. (: I'm now almost into my first week of recovery. Finally. Being "grounded" at home is not at all fun, especially when I'm someone who's not into lazing around at home. With restricted usage of my laptop and my phone (I try); imagine what the past one week has been like for me. But I'm not complaining! I'm extremely thankful for my new found vision! Still trying to get used to it though. It very much feels like I've my contact lenses on for the entire day! Not used to waking up and seeing everything so clearly, or having to feel like I forgot to remove my contacts before I go to sleep. But I'm really liking how much convenience it's already bringing me. (:

After the surgery!
I was done in 20 mins! And most importantly, it was PAINLESS.

There are two types of LASIK surgery. The one I did was Bladeless LASIK, which encourages a faster recovery as compared to Epi-LASIK. Basically, Bladeless LASIK "employs a FEMTO Bladeless Laser to create a flap on the regenerative "skin" of the cornea", while Epi-LASIK "exfoliates the cornea skin".

Right after the surgery was completed!

Being conscious throughout the entire procedure was eye-opening (literally) experience. Just a few drops of numbing eyedrops, and I was sent into the theatre. I was nervous as hell. I laid there and was told to focus on the blinking green dot (among all the other red dots and white glares). Still, I was aware of everything that was happening.
First, it was the eye clip so that I could blink without closing my eyes (does this even make sense?).
Then, this machine thingy happened. My vision (for that particular eye he was working on) was completely disabled for 30 seconds! It was scary. Everything was pitch black in one eye (and a cloth in the other). That was the longest 30 seconds of my life.
Next, was the laser. "Focus on the green dot, ignore the sound and the smokey smell." Okayyyy. He should've just told me to focus on the green dot, and not mention about the laser at all. I did try my best to focus on the green dot. But, I was equally focused on the sound and the smell of the laser as well. Hahaha.
Finally, lots of water in my eye (funny how I couldn't feel anything) and a bandage contact lens!

Yayyy! All done!
Dr. Julian Theng was extremely nice and encouraging throughout the entire procedure. He kept talking to me, making sure I was feeling okay, explaining and prepping me on what to expect after each step, assuring me on how well I was doing and how soon it was going to be over. Extremely thankful having him carry out the surgery for me. Not only that, he gave me a personalized copy of his book and a corporate discount! (Thanks to my Aunt as well!)

Here's a little shout out to my new found UB friends (Keagan, Matt, Jeremy & Nick): Thank you all for coming over to my place for that mini farewell dinner the other day since I can't head outdoors! It was great pleasure and I hope all of you had as much fun as I did. Looking forward to catching up with all of you once again in UB! (:

Just a few more days and I'll be out exploring the world (and all your facial pores) with my new found vision! No more shades, no more goggles, no more eye drops! Anddddd, no more contact lens! Yayyy!

On a side note, I'm sorry for the birthdays I've missed, and friends I couldn't be there for the past one week :/ Will definitely make it up to all of you real soon! <3

I rarely head out in my specs, so here's a photo to end of the post! (:
Thank you for being there with me on the day of the surgery, and for all the subsequent days you dropped by to keep me company! <3 Now we can compete to see who has a clearer vision, Mr. Perfect Eyesight. Heh.
