R.I.P. Tai Gong

Not many people get to see their great grandparents, much less have them around for a big part of their life. For that I count myself really lucky. Ever thankful for the both of them, (and the rest of the family we have in Penang).

Today Tai Gong made his way to heaven. (And it really sucks to be so far away from home right now.) But memories of him will live on forever, I'm sure. I'll always remember the stories I've been told of him, and of them as a loving couple. Despite being separated during the World War and having to overcome so many adversities, nothing stopped them from finding their way back to one another. 70+ years of blissful marriage; it's heartwarming to know that they spent his final moments together. Their love is truly inspirational.

I wish I made more effort to brush up on my cantonese over the past few years, so that I could converse with him more than just "hi" and "how are you". There certainly was so much more anyone could've learned from this amazing man. Up till his very last moments, he still cycles, he still drinks, and he doesn't need to wear glasses. (Here I am having my LASIK done at 21.) I can't believe he's actually 103.

My dearest Tai Gong, (though you'll never see this), I'm truly blessed to be your great grand daughter. I'll never forget the smiles and laughter you'd greet us with whenever we were over. You remind me of what a family should be like - filled with so much love and happiness (even though we only get to meet once a year, or sometimes even every two years). You've led such a fruitful life; you've touched the lives of many. You'll always be remembered. Till we meet again, Tai Gong.
Rest in peace. <3

(To my family: Sending all my love to you from Buffalo. Have a safe flight to Penang.)
